The beginning of December marks the unmissable "Habits de Lumière" event in Epernay, the capital of Champagne. Over the years, this event organized by the City of Epernay has showcased the famous Avenue de Champagne, the city's most renowned thoroughfare, which is home to numerous Champagne Houses and Winegrowers. Throughout the weekend, it is the scene of events focusing on Gastronomy and Champagne, as well as a classic car rendezvous. This year, the city will shine on December 9, 10 and 11!
Classified since 1994 as a "remarkable site of taste", the Avenue de Champagne has been one of the three sites most representative of the spaces and work involved in the production, elaboration and marketing of Champagne wine since July 2015, when the "Coteaux, Maisons et Caves de Champagne" property was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list in the "Living Evolving Cultural Landscape" category.
The 3-day event is a veritable showcase for the Champenoise Art de Vivre, with two festive evenings on the Avenue de Champagne on Friday and Saturday evenings, featuring video-mapping, light installations, live shows and fireworks. The Houses and Winegrowers play their part by welcoming visitors to their courtyards for musical entertainment and tastings.
Saturday sees the Habits de Saveur event, with Michelin-starred chefs teaming up with the Maisons et Vignerons de l'avenue de Champagne and local producers to create original recipes for demonstration (and tasting!!), as well as the Concours des p'tits pâtissiers. Wine and food pairing workshops and cellar tours complete the festivities.
Finally, to round off this festive weekend, on Sunday, a Parade of vintage vehicles featuring some 400 vehicles takes to the streets of the town.
